Google as a company never fails to impress customers with their products. Especially the pixel series has been making rounds in the market mostly for their price range and camera quality. During the opening of Google's annual I/O conference that took place in Mountain View, Google launched two new models- Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. It is interesting to note that both the phones launched had minimal differences in both price and features. Google delivered them with a promise that the cameras of both the models were as efficient as the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL.
Talking about Pixel 3 which is priced at Rs. 56,690 comes in two colours of black and white in India and in the shade of purple in some countries. The hardcore fans of one Google Nexus, which was one of the primaeval smartphone launched by Google will be undoubtedly be exhilarated to have a new option for an android phone which doesn't pull their savings apart.
Google decided to give the bulk of the rear cover a very uniform and remarkably smooth matte finish. The texture is also almost similar to the good old coloured glass of Pixel 3. The edges and window placed at the top of the phone showcase a high gloss plastic also gives it a premium look. The only disadvantage of the plastic rear is the possibility of scratches due to the durability of plastic but it can easily be prevented through a tough phone cover. Coming to display, there's a slight upgrade from UHD flexible OLEDs to a rigid OLED panel available in full HD resolution which stands to be an amazing display for the money. Drifting away from its competitor's move of removing the jack from the new launches, Google decided to stick to a notable headphone jack to cater to their non-Bluetooth audience. They have also included a USB-C port which supports USB audio and also the USB-PD that efficiently juices up at 18 watts. However, wireless charging option has been removed but the bonus if the proper capacitive fingerprint scanner on the back side of the phone that works like a dream.
Snapping away from their former flagship Snapdragon 845, Pixel 3a is built around mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor. This mid-range Soc is supposed to be more powerful in handling the stock Android 9.0 UI and other default apps of Google store. The phone has a similar RAM of 4G and the storage of 64 GB. However, there are two worth noticing changes in the current software, first being the original quality of photos backup is no longer available in this model and also the live text recognition in the camera viewfinder is no longer supported. The performance of this phone is quite satisfactory as it properly uses the Kryo CPUs from Qualcomm and is well responsive too.
One of the brownie points given to 3a is because of its slightly larger batteries as compared to the equivalent premium models. With 3000mAh unit, the phone can charge rapidly with 18 W chargers and last very long even if all the apps are frequently used. The power save mode also reduces the power consumed by various applications that are not regularly used.
It is safe to say that the camera of Google Pixel 3a is the best part of the phone as the qualities of photographs clicked from 3a is as good as Pixel 3 and we were not disappointed at all. Everything a good quality camera requires ranging from portrait mode, photo spheres, google lens, top shot, night sight and more is available in 3a. A new camera feature for time lapse has also been introduced that can capture one picture at 4 to 6 frames every second and will play them back at 0 frames per second again. Therefore, you can capture your footage at various preset speeds like 5x, 10x, 30x and 120x. However, as compared to the Pixel 3, this version lacks the Pixel Visual core hardware that does affect the camera quality to an extent.
Yes, if you are looking for an android phone that provides you're a comprehensive experience of a premium phone and don't want to spend a fortune in doing so, go ahead and get your hands on the new Google Pixel 3a. With the new OS update, enhanced battery life and great quality pictures; Pixel 3a will not disappoint you for your money in any manner.
